UV Fluorescent Mineral Calcite on Pyrite from Huanzala Mine, Peru CAL005Item Description
This fluorescent mineral specimen originated from the San Jose De Huanzala Mine in Huanuco, Peru, in South America. It passed through the 22nd Street Gem and Mineral show in Tucson, Arizona and is waiting to join your collection!
This specimen shows mangano-calcite, fluorite, and pyrite (sometimes called Fool's Gold due to its sparkly, gold-like appearance). It is interesting to note that the mangano-calcite appears to be botryoidal in form (having the grape like appearance comprised of many small crystals). The fluorite crystal shape is a combination of octahedrons and cubes. The mine is noted for very nice pyrite specimens and this piece has nice looking pyrite crystals.
This piece is shown illuminated under longwave UV-A (365nm) at a distance of approximately 10 inches. Color intensity may vary depending on your lamp wattage and distance.
It would be an excellent addition for the fluorescent rock, gem, and mineral collector.
