SHORT WAVE and LONG WAVE UV
Franklin Marble, Zinc ore rock containing fluorescent Sphalerite, Willemite and non fluorescent Franklinite and Calcite.
NOTE!  The minerals/crystals on this specimen are weakly bonded and when handled individual grains will fall off, so keep that in mind and handle gently.
Under long wave the
Sphalerite fluoresces bright blue and the Willemite a dim green. Under short wave the Willemite is a bright vibrant green and the some of the Sphalerite a dim blue/purple.
Oddly the Calcite does not show much if any reaction under either UV wavelength.
Acquired from the Sterling Hill mine in Ogdensburg New Jersey.
All of the fluorescent images were shot using a 6 watt short wave lamp and a Convoy S2 long wave flashlight.
31 grams.
1-1/4" length.
NOTE!
I used a 6 watt short wave lamp for the SW images, and you will need the same or similar to see the fluorescence.
