Mid Wave UV Fluorescent Calcite, Sweetwater Mine, Missouri

Description

Attractive specimen consisting of a single, well-formed, yellowish calcite crystal on limestone matrix. From the Sweetwater Mine, Reynolds Co., Missouri. Under mid wave UV (302 nm), the calcite shows a magenta-colored fluorescent response. This piece measures 39 x 38 x 17.9 mm. The calcite crystal is 25 mm in length.
As is the case with all fluorescent mineral specimens, a good quality UV lamp of adequate output and appropriate wavelength (mid wave UV/302 nm) is required to see the fluorescent response depicted in the photographs.  An ordinary "black light"
will
not
work for these minerals.
