Description
Up for bid is a rare fluorescent geode specimen from the Hwy 70S Roadcut in Woodbury, Tennessee. This was found in black oil shale. The oil shale contains the organic compound kerogen. This is used to make shale oil. All these hydrocarbons have given this specimen a very interesting fluorescence response! The quartz in this specimen is non fluorescent, but the hydrocarbons fluoresce Yellow, Orange, White and Blue-White. This specimen fluoresces under all UV wavelengths however some of the material fluoresces better under SW and some is better under LW. First picture is SW, second picture LW and third picture White Light.
Construction at the road cut where these were collected is finished and bulldozers have covered up the area, so no more of this material will be available.
