JH10857 Orange Fluorescing Halite, Mount Gunson, South Australia

$ 26.4

Description

Up for bid is a brilliant orange fluorescing Halite (salt) specimen from the Mount Gunson Copper mines in South Australia. This specimen most likely came from the settling ponds, or the flooded open pit, of the West Lagoon mine on the shores of Pernatty Lagoon. The daylight green color is due to the presence of copper based minerals from the mining operation.
Please note that Halite is hygroscopic. This means it will draw moisture out the air which can d the specimen. Most of the damaged Halite specimens I have seen were stored in paper or cardboard. This is especially bad because the paper absorbs the water which can melt the specimen. I live in Southern California and store my specimens in plastic containers and have had zero problems with over a decade and a half of storage. If you live in a very humid environment you will want to store this specimen in a sealed plastic bag with a desiccant (dehydrating agent).

Domestic Shipping
For domestic shipping I generally use Fed Exp Ground for heavier and more expensive items, and US Postal Service Priority Mail for lighter and less expensive items. Both services have door to door tracking and full insurance. If you have a shipping preference please let me know. If the shipping service I use costs less than eBay charges, I will refund any excess. I only charge actual shipping costs with no extra charges for packing or shipping materials and will gladly combine shipments. If the combined shipping doesnt work for some reason, I will refund any excess shipping.
International Shipping
I use US Postal Service Priority mail for all international shipments. Please note that due to a lack of international flights, many overseas shipments are going by boat instead of air. This can add a month or more to delivery times. Purchase at your own risk.
