    Description

Up for bid is a beautiful specimen of Fluorite from the famous William Wise Mine in NH. This piece has nice crystals of fluorite that are aqua-blue in daylight and fluoresce blue under all wavelengths of UV light but are best under Long-Wave. (Picture under LW) There is also some massive Fluorite covering the rest of the specimen. This is both a great daylight and fluorescent piece.
I believe this Fluorite was originally Chlorophane and altered into Fluorite. I have some pieces from this locality that still have some traces of unaltered Chlorophane that still phosphoresces. The piece in this auction has completely altered so there is no phosphorescence left. This material also has some traces of thermoluminescent (emits light when heated) like Chlorophane. However since it has mostly altered to Fluorite this effect is very weak. While some Chlorophanes emit light when heated with hot water (or in some very rare instances your hand) this specimen needs strong heating on the stove to emit light. Since this would probably damage the specimen I don’t recommend doing this. I will send you some small chips of this material if you want to experiment with thermoluminescence.
