    Description

Apatite with Quartz, Skardu, Pakistan - Fluorescent!
From the famous mineral location in the mountainous Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan
    1.75 x 1 x .75 inches or 4.5 x 3 x1.5 x 2 cm
This mineral specimen has two fluorescent yellow Apatite crystals embedded in a beautiful Quartz crystal. In daylight the Apatites are slightly green colored.
Under Short Wave UV the Apatites fluoresce yellow and light up the Quartz from inside when you view it from various angles. It's a beautiful and rare effect. Kind of like a fluorescent phantom but it's more unusual than that. I captured a few pics of that effect but it's even better in person.
Pics taken under Short Wave UV.
Skardu, Pakistan is one of the richest sources of pegmatite minerals in the world. It's famous for gemstones like Aquamarine.
The pegmatites there are rich in Tourmalines of different colors, Kunzite, Topaz in addition to Apatite. The pegmatites of San Diego County, California have the same set of minerals. For the most part San Diego's pegmatites are mined out but a few mines are still producing gem pockets. Skardu is very much still producing a wide array of fantastic specimens. They may not last forever so now is a good time to get some killer pieces.
    The dimensions are 1.75 x 1 x .75 inches or 4.5 x 3 x1.5 x 2 cm
